Large alum-tanned sheepskin

$300.00

The magic: I grew up on a sheep farm in Forest Grove, which my mom continues to operate. She keeps a small flock, just 8 sheep, and raises them for meat, which is sold to longtime customers once a year. I am proud to be offering sheepskins after many years of searching for a place to get the hides tanned. The day the lambs are dispatched by a local butcher who comes to the farm, the hides are salted and then mailed to the tannery.

Hide Tanning: This hide was tanned by Jacob at Angelos Tannery down in Roseburg, OR. It was tanned using an alum-based tanning process

Dimensions: This hide measures approximately 54”long by 31” wide (measured in the middle). It is big! This sheep was a Dorset/Romney blend.

Care: For routine care, vacuum sheepskin, shake it out, and/or air it out in the sun to freshen up. This sheepskin is not machine washable.

Each hide is one of a kind and may have slight irregularities in symmetry, wool density, etc. This is normal and natural.
